A Bass Point Success Story
In industrial operations like Bass Point Quarry where water usage is high, losing water unnecessarily is a major problem. The Bass Point Quarry team knew water loss was an issue and promptly went about identifying how to mitigate the loss.
Recently, the team had a recurring problem with a truck spray bar. The system was plagued by false triggers due to sensor malfunctions, leading to excessive mains water waste daily.
When the site team noticed the issue, they investigated and discovered that the mist produced by high-pressure sprays was causing the sensors to trip unnecessarily.
To address this, the team adjusted the water supply tap to half capacity. This change effectively eliminated the false triggers while maintaining the spray bar's performance. Additionally, a water usage meter had been previously installed, allowing for accurate tracking of water consumption.
As a result of this initiative, mains water consumption has been reduced by 50%. This translates to a water savings of approximately 10,500 litres per day, alongside a reduction in waste due to false triggers (the exact volume of which is yet to be quantified).
Even small proactive measures can lead to significant improvements. Overall, the site is projected to save around $9,000 AUD annually.
By tackling this issue, the team not only enhanced water efficiency but also made a meaningful contribution to resource conservation in their region.
