Water management at Southport concrete plant, Queensland

At the Southport concrete plant, we have designed and implemented a system of overground settlement tanks that optimise water quality.

Ensuring high water quality is crucial for concrete plants, especially for effective batching and stormwater management during heavy rainfall. Our facilities focus on optimising water quality through a series of best practices, including the pre-mixing of recycled water before batching, using settlement pits to settle solids, and conducting regular quality tests.

Each tank features a valve at the bottom to direct slurry into a dedicated collection wedge pit. The design allows for the overflow from one tank to flow into the next, ensuring effective solid settlement at each stage. Additionally, our slump stand is equipped with a separate pipeline for recycled water, which is predominantly used for batching. This setup accommodates both recycled and town water as needed.

Due to our initiative, our water quality at the Southport plant meets all regulatory standards and has significantly improved after the newly implemented treatment system. Additionally, the water quality of Southport is suitable for recycling purposes within the plant as well as stormwater discharge when required.
