Water reduction at Diggers Rest Quarry, Victoria

At Diggers Rest Quarry in Victoria, we're dedicated to minimizing water usage and associated costs whenever possible.

Recently, the team took the initiative to enhance our dust suppression methods on the roads.

Previously, our water carts used outdated spraying technology that wasted a significant amount of water. The broad spray pattern often directed half of the water onto surrounding vegetation instead of keeping it on the narrow roads, leading to considerable water loss and ineffective dust control. To address this, we added lower nozzles to our water carts, allowing for a switch between wide and narrow spray patterns. This change has streamlined our operations and significantly reduced water waste.

As a result of these improvements, we estimate a daily savings of 30,000 litres of water, enabling us to achieve optimal dust suppression with just three loads instead of four. This initiative not only conserves water but also enhances the efficiency of our operations.
